Most internet service providers offer a little more expensive business internet plans, but still offer nice features such as no throttling, no data limits, and even faster speeds. And the odds are that in your home you will get business internet, whether you really have a company or not.

Normally, signing up for an internet business plan is just like signing up for a residential plan, but you have to jump through a few extra hoops occasionally. Some ISPs put more limits on who can use business accounts than others. And some also restrict company accounts to particular geographic areas.

That being said, you can normally sign up at home for a business internet connection. Many individuals either telecommute or operate their businesses from the house, and those individuals are catered to by ISPs for their business plans. At least, that's the situation, including Comcast, AT&T business internet, Spectrum Internet, and Verizon, with the big providers we looked into.

That being said, to see if they have business internet at your address, and if they have any limitations on who can apply, you'll need to check with your provider or other providers in your area. And sadly, on an area-by-area basis, the rules always seem to shift.

Personal experience, we have heard from individuals who have been able to get business internet with no issue, others who have been asked for details such as a business name and federal tax ID number (although if you are a sole proprietor you can use a social security number instead), and even others who say they were required to present a real business permit.

However, over recent years, ISPs have been more tolerant of providing business internet at residential locations. Especially we are practicing work from home nowadays.

Through communicating with the local representative of your ISP, you might even be able to bypass some of these qualifications. When you contact the company, it normally goes to a general call center where they don't know much about your situation. But if you can reach a local office and talk to the local business manager, with less hassle, you can be able to switch to a business plan.
